Trade relations between Nigeria and Egypt have witnessed a notable upswing, with total bilateral trade volume reaching $315 million in 2024, according to Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry.
The announcement was made during his address at the Nigeria-Egypt Business Forum 2025, held at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, where government officials, business leaders, and diplomats from both countries gathered to foster stronger economic partnerships.
Minister Shoukry noted that the trade figure marks a significant improvement from previous years, highlighting deepening cooperation across key sectors such as agriculture, construction, manufacturing, and energy. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to expanding its investment footprint in Nigeria, especially through strategic partnerships with Nigerian companies and government agencies.
In 2023, bilateral trade stood at approximately $211.2 million, with Egyptian exports to Nigeria dominating the figures. The 2024 trade surge signals a positive shift toward a more balanced and mutually beneficial economic relationship.
The Minister emphasized the importance of further reducing trade barriers, enhancing direct investments, and leveraging both countries’ positions as regional powerhouses in North and West Africa, respectively.
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, also reiterated the country’s interest in boosting trade flows and improving diplomatic and economic ties with Egypt. The forum is expected to pave the way for new bilateral agreements and increased trade activity in the years ahead.
