The second edition of the Nigeria Food Summit is set to take place in Lagos on Friday, bringing together key stakeholders in the food industry to explore opportunities for growth and global recognition.
In a statement on Thursday, the event’s convener, renowned culinary expert Gbolabo Adebakin (popularly known as Chef Gibbs), highlighted the summit’s theme, “Making Nigeria a Global Food Destination.” The initiative aims to promote Nigeria’s diverse food culture and strengthen its food value chain through collaboration among farmers, chefs, food entrepreneurs, and industry leaders.
Speaking on the summit’s impact, Chef Gibbs said, “Nigeria has a rich and unique culinary heritage that deserves global recognition. Through this summit, we are fostering innovation, sustainability, and economic expansion by connecting every player in the food ecosystem—from agriculture to food tech and culinary arts.”
The summit will feature expert-led discussions on key industry topics, focusing on ways to elevate Nigeria’s food sector to international standards. Attendees will also have access to a dedicated exhibition zone, where food tech startups, agricultural suppliers, and culinary service providers will showcase their innovations.
Additionally, a business clinic will be available, offering free consultations on finance, branding, human resources, legal matters, and tax advisory for food entrepreneurs looking to scale their businesses.
One of the major highlights of the event is the Pitch-a-Tonne competition, designed to support emerging food entrepreneurs. Participants will have the chance to secure grants, mentorship, and investment opportunities to expand their ventures.
The summit will also feature a culinary museum that explores the history of Nigerian cuisine, showcasing traditional cooking artefacts and regional food traditions. A live farm exhibit will provide insights into sustainable agriculture and the farm-to-table movement, highlighting innovative practices in food production.
