Lagos, July 19, 2025 — The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has emphasised the urgent need for the country to focus on developing and adopting local manufacturing technologies to reduce its heavy reliance on imported machinery and foreign innovations.
Speaking in Lagos, the leadership of MAN stressed that strengthening indigenous technology will not only boost domestic production capacity but also safeguard the economy against external shocks and global supply chain disruptions.
According to the association, Nigeria’s industrial growth has been stunted by the over-dependence on foreign-made equipment and materials, which drain foreign exchange and limit opportunities for job creation within the local economy.
“Promoting home-grown technological solutions in the manufacturing sector is not only necessary but urgent. It is the surest way to drive sustainable industrialisation, strengthen our naira, and prepare Nigeria for the future,” MAN stated.
The association urged the Federal Government to back this shift with concrete policies, including incentives for research and development, protection of intellectual property rights, and strong partnerships between industry and academia.
MAN also called on stakeholders across the public and private sectors to collaborate in fostering a technology-driven industrial environment, insisting that only a resilient, self-sufficient manufacturing base can guarantee Nigeria’s long-term economic stability.
