Brasília, June 21, 2025 – Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to global health cooperation with its active participation in the BRICS Ministers of Health Meeting held in Brasília, Brazil. The high-level gathering brought together health ministers and delegates from BRICS member countries and invited partners to discuss collaborative strategies for strengthening health systems, improving pandemic preparedness, and promoting equitable access to healthcare innovations.
Nigeria’s delegation, led by a senior official from the Federal Ministry of Health, engaged in key discussions focusing on public health resilience, health workforce development, and shared solutions to cross-border health challenges affecting the Global South. The meeting provided a platform for Nigeria to highlight its ongoing reforms in primary healthcare delivery, digital health integration, and local vaccine production.
In her address, the Nigerian representative emphasised the country’s strategic priorities, including strengthening universal health coverage, enhancing disease surveillance systems, and fostering international partnerships for health equity. She reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate on knowledge sharing, research, and resource mobilisation to bridge gaps in health service delivery across developing nations.
The BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting also featured joint declarations on future health collaboration, with countries pledging to enhance cooperation in epidemic response, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and capacity building. Nigeria was acknowledged for its growing role in regional health leadership and its commitment to multilateral health diplomacy.
