ABUJA — Nigeria has reiterated its unwavering commitment to global peace and security during the 2025 United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial, held recently in New York. Represented by the Minister of Defence, Nigeria emphasized its continued support for multilateral efforts aimed at conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and humanitarian assistance worldwide.
Speaking at the high-level gathering, the Nigerian delegation underscored the country’s longstanding role as a major troop contributor to UN peacekeeping missions, particularly in Africa. Nigeria’s participation, spanning over five decades, has been pivotal in stabilizing conflict zones and fostering peaceful transitions in troubled regions.
The Minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to enhancing the capabilities of peacekeepers through sustained training, modernization of equipment, and adherence to international humanitarian law. The delegation also called for increased global cooperation and funding to address emerging security challenges, including terrorism, insurgency, and climate-related conflicts.
Nigeria’s leadership highlighted the importance of strengthening regional partnerships, particularly within the African Union and ECOWAS, to complement UN peacekeeping efforts and ensure sustainable peace on the continent.
As the world faces complex security threats, Nigeria’s engagement at the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial signals its resolve to remain a key player in the promotion of peace, stability, and human security across borders. The country continues to advocate for inclusive approaches that integrate local communities and women in peace processes, in line with global peacebuilding frameworks.
