Abuja, July 2, 2025 — In a landmark diplomatic move aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation and deepening ties with the African diaspora, Nigeria has signed a Technical Manpower Assistance Agreement with the government of Saint Lucia.
The agreement, finalized in Abuja, paves the way for the deployment of skilled Nigerian professionals across various sectors to the Caribbean nation. The initiative seeks to bolster Saint Lucia’s technical and professional workforce while offering Nigerian experts global opportunities to contribute to development efforts beyond the continent.
Government officials described the pact as a vital step toward promoting mutual growth, strengthening cultural connections, and enhancing Nigeria’s soft power through strategic partnerships with nations that share historical and ancestral links with Africa.
“This agreement is not just about technical support; it is about reconnecting with our extended family across the Atlantic and building strong, future-forward alliances,” an official from Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
Saint Lucia’s government also welcomed the collaboration, expressing optimism that the deployment of Nigerian professionals would contribute meaningfully to the island nation’s human capital development goals in health, education, engineering, agriculture, and public administration.
The deal aligns with Nigeria’s broader foreign policy objectives of exporting skilled manpower, fostering regional solidarity, and leveraging international cooperation as a tool for economic empowerment and global engagement.
