Nigeria Submits National Progress Report to ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja Session

In a significant regional diplomatic engagement, the Federal Government of Nigeria has officially presented its country report to the ECOWAS Parliament during the ongoing parliamentary session in Abuja. The report offers a comprehensive account of Nigeria’s socio-political and economic developments, alongside key interventions in security, governance, and regional integration efforts.

The session, hosted in the nation’s capital, drew delegates from across West Africa, marking a pivotal moment for peer review and intergovernmental dialogue within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) framework. Nigeria’s presentation was delivered in line with the Parliament’s mandate requiring member states to periodically update the regional body on national affairs and contributions to the collective goals of the bloc.

The report highlighted the Federal Government’s strides in stabilising the economy, tackling insecurity, reforming governance structures, and improving infrastructure. It also touched on Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, strengthen democratic institutions, and enhance regional cooperation in trade, migration, and health.

Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to the ECOWAS Vision 2050, which seeks to create a peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive West African region. The presentation was well-received by lawmakers and observers, as it provided clarity on Nigeria’s policy direction and the challenges being addressed at both national and sub-regional levels.

It was confirm that this exercise forms part of a broader mechanism to ensure transparency, accountability, and collective progress among ECOWAS member states. The Abuja session continues this week with deliberations expected to cover regional security, economic resilience, and democratic governance.
