Nigeria to be Represented by Vice President at 80th UN General Assembly

Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent Nigeria at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, following a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The high-level session is scheduled to hold from September 22 to 28, 2025 at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Vice President Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement on Wednesday, September 24, between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. local time (New York).

In addition to the general debate, Shettima will participate in the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Summit, where Nigeria is set to announce new Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement.

He will also attend a high-level roundtable on adequate and affordable housing hosted by Kenya, alongside a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings.

Following the UNGA, the Vice President is scheduled to travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for consultations with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.

The assignment was confirmed in a statement released in Abuja by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President).
