Nigerian Alleges Mumbai Anti-Narcotics Planting Cocaine on Him

Mumbai, July 9, 2025

A 39‑year‑old Nigerian national, Frank Chibuzor Nandi, has claimed in an Indian court that anti-narcotics officers planted 200 grams of cocaine in his possession during his arrest in Mumbai.

Nandi was detained on Saturday in Malad, after officers from Mumbai’s Anti-Narcotics Cell reportedly found a bag containing the substance, which they said had an estimated street value of Rs 2 crore (about ₦360 million). A Honda City vehicle was also seized in connection with the arrest. Nandi appeared before a Holiday Court on Sunday to face drug-related charges.

During his court appearance, Nandi denied ownership of the drugs, saying: *“The police simply arrested me, planted the bag on me, took photos and videos, and later said the seizure was drugs. I completely deny this.”*   He requested to consult his wife upon advice from the court to obtain legal representation and has been remanded in custody pending further investigation.

This case adds to a series of legal proceedings involving Nigerian nationals accused of drug offenses in India, highlighting ongoing concerns about narcotics trafficking and potential jurisdictional challenges.
