The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has reiterated the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to addressing all security threats facing the nation. Speaking at the 2024 Army Headquarters Departments and Commands West African Social Activities (WASA) in Abuja, Oluyede emphasized the army’s recognition of the huge expectations of Nigerians and the importance of peace and security for meaningful development in any society.
Oluyede expressed his appreciation to all officers and soldiers for their dedication to making Nigeria safe. He also acknowledged the continued support and cooperation of all security and intelligence agencies in the execution of the army’s operations across the country.
The COAS assured that the Nigerian Army will continue to foster stronger partnerships to enhance its collective capacity to address the nation’s security challenges. He also reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare and well-being of officers, soldiers, and their families.
Oluyede highlighted the army’s efforts to address various forms of threats to national security, including insurgency, terrorism, banditry, economic sabotage, and organized kidnapping. He thanked President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support and strategic guidance to the Nigerian Army.
The event featured cultural displays by various ethnic groups, traditional cuisine exhibitions, and tug-of-war competitions. The Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, Major-General Koko Isoni, described WASA as an enduring tradition of the Nigerian Army that promotes socialization and nostalgia among officers, soldiers, and their families.
