The Nigerian Army has declared a solemn three-day mourning period from June 25 to June 27, 2025, in honour of 17 gallant soldiers who paid the ultimate price during an operation in Kwana Dutse, Niger State.
According to a statement released by military authorities, all Nigerian Army formations and units across the country have been directed to fly the Army flag at half-mast throughout the mourning period as a symbol of respect and national grief.
The fallen soldiers, who were ambushed in the line of duty, have been hailed as heroes whose sacrifice exemplifies courage, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to national security.
“We bow our heads in honour of these courageous men who gave their lives in defence of our beloved country,” the Army said. “Their legacy of bravery will remain etched in the annals of our military history.”
Condolences have also poured in from across the country as Nigerians mourn the loss and pay tribute to the departed heroes. The Army assured that the sacrifices of the slain personnel would not be in vain, reaffirming its commitment to intensify operations against insurgents and criminal elements in the region.
The Nigerian Army also expressed heartfelt sympathy to the families and loved ones of the deceased, promising continued support to them during this difficult period.
