Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised a suspected bandit during an ambush operation in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, recovering an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and a motorcycle.
The operation, carried out by soldiers of the 22 Armoured Brigade stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Patigi, followed credible intelligence on the movement of armed bandits along the Lema–Daban Lema Road.
According to Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Stephen Nwankwo, the ambush occurred at approximately 12:10 a.m. on Wednesday. Troops engaged the armed group in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat in disarray. A follow-up pursuit led to the neutralisation of one suspect, while others escaped.
Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a motorcycle. The remains of the deceased suspect have been handed over to relevant authorities.
Brigadier-General Ezra Barkins, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, commended the troops for their vigilance and urged continued aggressive operations to secure communities in Kwara State from criminal threats.
