MAIDUGURI – In a decisive operation that delivers another blow to the terrorist group, troops from the Nigerian Army’s Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised a senior Boko Haram commander, identified as Ibn Kaseer, in a precision strike deep within the Sambisa Forest. Three additional fighters were also killed during the early‑morning assault, security sources have confirmed .
The raid was carried out by forces of the 21 Brigade working alongside hybrid security units. Acting on reliable intelligence, the troops located Ibn Kaseer’s hideout in Kashoumeri village—where he reportedly sought refuge with family. He was known to have terrorised communities in the Geizuwa and Yale axis. His two lieutenants, including one named Bulamadu, were killed alongside him .
The Nigerian Army described the operation as a “swift and successful” raid executed before the terrorists could mobilise a defence. Notably, four women and children present at the location were rescued safely, and several relatives of the commanders surrendered to military forces in Konduga LGA following the incident .
Security analysts say the elimination of Ibn Kaseer marks a significant advance in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign in the North-East, where Boko Haram remnants continue to pose a threat. The operation underscores the increasing effectiveness of integrated ground-hybrid task forces in targeting insurgents in their strongholds .
The Nigerian Army remains committed to sustaining pressure on terrorist networks, with similar high-profile strikes carried out in previous months as part of a broader strategy to reclaim territory, restore civil order, and protect vulnerable communities.
