Nigerian Army Uncovers Suspected Bandit Ritual Shrine in Southern Taraba

Taraba State, June 22, 2025 – Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have uncovered a suspected ritual shrine allegedly used by armed bandits in Southern Taraba during a sweeping clearance operation aimed at flushing out criminal elements from the region.

The discovery was made during an intensive military operation targeting known hideouts of bandits terrorising communities in the area. According to military sources, the suspected shrine was concealed within a remote forest location and was surrounded by charms, blood-stained items, and objects believed to have been used for ritualistic purposes.

Security operatives said the structure appeared to serve as a spiritual stronghold for the armed groups, possibly used to fortify their operations and instil fear in local communities.

The operation, which involved coordinated aerial and ground surveillance, also led to the recovery of arms, ammunition, and other logistics used by the criminal elements. Several suspects were apprehended and are currently being interrogated for intelligence that could aid further operations.

Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace and order across Taraba and surrounding regions, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. They assured the public that the operation would continue until all threats posed by bandits and other violent groups are neutralised.

The discovery of the suspected ritual shrine highlights the complex tactics employed by armed groups in rural conflict zones and underscores the need for sustained military pressure to dismantle their networks.
