In an extraordinary display of endurance, passion, and commitment to unity, Nigerian biker Omolewa Adesuyi, popularly known as MamaSpade, has set her sights on an ambitious 7,000-kilometer journey from Lagos, Nigeria, to Cape Town, South Africa. The five-week expedition, which she calls the “Unity Ride,” is not just a personal challenge but a symbolic effort to foster stronger connections between African nations.
MamaSpade, an avid biker and adventure enthusiast, is no stranger to long-distance travel. In 2023, she successfully completed a daring ride from Lagos to Ivory Coast and back. However, she believes there is more to explore, more boundaries to push, and a greater message to share.
“Biking has given me freedom, strength, and purpose,” she shared. “My journey to Ivory Coast was exhilarating, but 5,000 kilometers was not enough. This time, I’m riding 7,000 kilometers across Africa to show that we are one continent, one people. It is a journey for unity.”
Her ride will take her through multiple African countries, including Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Namibia, and finally, South Africa. Throughout this adventure, she hopes to inspire fellow Africans, particularly women, to break barriers and embrace their dreams fearlessly.

MamaSpade’s journey is backed by an unwavering support system, which includes her family, friends, and the broader biking community in Nigeria. She expressed her deep gratitude to her support team, particularly her associates at Detail & Avedia and her family.
“Without their love and encouragement, I wouldn’t have come this far,” she said, acknowledging the significant role of her loved ones in making her dream a reality.
Her mother, while initially surprised by her daughter’s love for biking, has come to appreciate the passion and determination that drives her.
“From the moment she was born, I knew she was destined for greatness,” she said. “I never imagined she would grow up to become a passionate biker, but it has been incredible watching her embrace this path. I am grateful to the entire biking community across Nigeria for supporting her and encouraging her to pursue her dreams.”

Toluwani Adeniyi, project manager for the ride, emphasized the deeper significance behind MamaSpade’s journey.
“This is not just about traveling across Africa on a bike. It is about sending a message to young girls and women that they can dream and achieve anything they set their minds to,” Adeniyi explained. “In many parts of the world, including Africa, women are often relegated to the background. MamaSpade’s journey is a testament to the fact that women can be daring, adventurous, and limitless.”
Through her ride, MamaSpade hopes to encourage more women to take on unconventional pursuits and challenge societal norms. By navigating diverse terrains, braving the unknown, and persevering through challenges, she embodies the spirit of resilience and self-determination.

Initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) are aimed at strengthening intra-African relations, and MamaSpade’s ride serves as a symbolic contribution to this vision.
