Nigerian Muslims Urge First Lady to Extend Palliative Support Amidst Ongoing Hardship

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to extend her charitable initiatives to the Muslim community, following her recent donation of seven hybrid 14-seater buses to the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICA) in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Saturday, May 31, 2025, MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, commended the First Lady’s generosity but emphasized the need for inclusivity. He reminded that as the “Mother of the Nation,” her benevolence should encompass all Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation.

Akintola acknowledged the First Lady’s previous charitable acts, including the distribution of 22,800 bags of rice to Christians in 19 northern states during the 2024 Christmas and New Year season. He expressed hope that similar support would be extended to Muslims, particularly in light of the absence of palliative measures during the 2025 Ramadan period.

The statement further highlighted that while Muslims did not receive palliatives during Ramadan, MURIC remains optimistic that the First Lady’s support for the Muslim community is forthcoming. Akintola expressed confidence that the Tinubu family, known for their history of philanthropy, would not disappoint in this regard.

This appeal comes amidst ongoing economic challenges faced by many Nigerians, with religious organizations urging equitable distribution of aid to alleviate the hardships experienced by all citizens.
