Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, the D’Tigers, have advanced to the quarter-finals of the AfroBasket 2025 in Luanda after finishing top of Group B with three straight victories.
The West Africans opened their campaign with a 77–59 win over Madagascar, followed by an emphatic 87–66 defeat of defending champions Tunisia, led by Josh Okogie’s 33-point performance. They sealed top spot with a 99–90 triumph against Cameroon, a game in which six Nigerian players finished in double figures.
By completing the group stage with maximum points, Nigeria booked a direct ticket to the last eight of the continental championship.
However, while several local reports suggest that the D’Tigers are set to face Senegal’s Teranga Lions in the quarter-finals today (Wednesday), official confirmation of the opponent and fixture time is still pending from tournament organizers, FIBA.
Coach Mohammed Abdulrahman has emphasized defensive solidity and transition play as central to Nigeria’s game plan, though a widely circulated quote attributed to him ahead of the clash has not yet been independently verified.
