Nigeria’s Oil Output Rises to 1.63m Barrels Per Day in August 2025

Abuja, Nigeria | September 21, 2025

Nigeria’s upstream oil sector recorded a year-on-year output increase in August 2025, with production averaging 1.63 million barrels per day (bopd) of crude oil and condensates, according to official data.

Figures from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) showed that crude oil output stood at about 1.43 million bopd, while condensates contributed approximately 197,229 bopd. The combined figure reflects a rise from the 1.58 million bopd recorded in August 2024.

Despite the year-on-year growth, the August 2025 figures represented a 4.7 percent decline compared to July’s output of 1.71 million bopd. The reduction was attributed to unscheduled maintenance at some oil facilities.
Crude oil production in August amounted to 96 percent of Nigeria’s current OPEC quota of 1.5 million bopd, underscoring a continued improvement in compliance levels.

Analysts note that while the increase highlights steady recovery in the oil sector, external data sources place Nigeria’s August output slightly lower, at around 1.55 million bopd, reflecting differences in methodology and reporting standards.

The latest figures reinforce Nigeria’s efforts to stabilise production levels amid ongoing challenges in the energy sector.
