The President of the Muslim Community of Lagos, Alhaji Mohammed Oyinlomo Danmole, has likened the current security challenges plaguing some parts of Nigeria, especially the North East and Middle Belt regions, to a form of guerilla warfare. He emphasized that the nation’s security forces must take the fight to the hideouts of terrorists, whom he described as foreigners and enemies of the state.
Danmole made this assertion during the inaugural Central Working Committee meeting of the new leadership of the Muslim Community of Lagos, held at the Conference Room of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria Lagos Branch, Ajao Road, Surulere, Lagos. He stressed the need for the government to identify and attack the root cause of the problem, while acknowledging the difficulties posed by the terrain of the troubled areas.
According to Danmole, the current insecurity is not insurmountable, and a solution can be achieved if residents of the affected communities provide useful information to security agencies, which should then demonstrate the courage to confront the terrorists with superior firepower. He expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s ability to deliver on his mandate and tackle the security challenges facing the nation.
On the economic front, Danmole noted that the recent Fitch ratings indicate a gradual recovery, but cautioned the government to prioritize policies that will sustain this trend. He emphasized the need for policies that will promote economic growth and development, rather than just providing temporary relief.
The Muslim Community of Lagos, under Danmole’s leadership, has expressed readiness to collaborate with the Lagos State Government in addressing some of the challenges facing residents. Danmole disclosed that the organization is prepared to implement its mission to improve the well-being of Muslims, with a focus on empowerment programs that will depart from the usual distribution of palliatives.
The Muslim Community of Lagos President’s remarks highlight the need for a multifaceted approach to addressing the security challenges facing Nigeria. The organization’s willingness to collaborate with the government and provide support to affected communities is a positive development that could help mitigate the impact of insecurity on residents.
