The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting sunshine and haziness across the country from Friday to Sunday, and has strongly advised airline operators to utilize its airport-specific weather reports for safe and effective flight planning.
NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Thursday in Abuja, indicates sunny skies and hazy conditions over the northern region on Friday, with potential thunderstorms in parts of Taraba during the afternoon or evening.
The North Central region is expected to experience sunny skies with patches of clouds, and isolated thunderstorms are possible in parts of Kogi and Benue states.
In the southern region, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are anticipated, with morning thunderstorms expected in parts of Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are also predicted for parts of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Edo, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Lagos states.
Moderate dust haze is forecast for parts of Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Adamawa, and Bauchi states on Saturday.
The agency anticipates continued sunny skies with hazy conditions in the rest of the northern region throughout the forecast period. Sunny skies with patches of clouds are also expected in the North Central region during this time. Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are anticipated in the southern region, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms expected in parts of Ogun, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Lagos states.
On Sunday, moderate dust haze is predicted for the northern region.
NiMet has highlighted the high temperatures across the country, warning of potential heat stress. The agency advises the public to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Individuals with respiratory issues, particularly in the northern regions, are urged to take necessary precautions.
