NMA Applauds Governor Lawal for Revamping Zamfara’s Health Sector

Gusau, June 23, 2025 — The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has commended Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, for his administration’s renewed commitment to overhauling the state’s healthcare system, describing the efforts as a major step toward restoring quality medical service delivery.

The association’s praise came during a high-level engagement between the NMA leadership and key officials of the Zamfara State Government, where they acknowledged recent strides made in improving healthcare infrastructure, workforce development, and access to essential medical services.

Speaking on behalf of the association, the NMA Chairman in the state expressed satisfaction with the government’s proactive interventions, which include the renovation and equipping of primary and secondary healthcare facilities, recruitment of health personnel, and procurement of critical medical supplies.

Governor Lawal, in his response, reiterated that revitalising the health sector remains a top priority for his administration. He noted that no society can thrive without a functional healthcare system and assured that the state government would continue to invest in sustainable policies to strengthen health outcomes for all residents.

The Governor also highlighted ongoing plans to partner with federal health agencies and international development partners to expand specialist care, improve maternal and child health, and boost training programmes for medical professionals.

The NMA, while urging continuous improvement, pledged to support the government’s agenda by ensuring professionalism and accountability within the medical community.

Governor Lawal’s initiatives have drawn praise from observers as Zamfara looks to overcome years of neglect and underfunding in the sector. The renewed collaboration between government and the medical community is seen as a critical foundation for long-term health sector reform in the state.
