The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has accused a corrupt syndicate of circulating false narratives to undermine its ongoing anti-corruption efforts. The company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, dismissed the fabricated claims as malicious propaganda aimed at wrecking NNPC’s reputation and scaring off investors.
Soneye clarified that these spurious reports are being deliberately spread by economic saboteurs threatened by the company’s internal reforms. He emphasised that NNPC, under Mele Kyari’s stewardship, employs rigorous checks and operational transparency, especially following significant reforms such as revamping refineries and cutting fuel import dependency. He assured that the company sells only high-standard fuel sourced partly from the Dangote Refinery, in compliance with industry norms and regulations.
He also warned that NNPC will not hesitate to pursue legal action against individuals or groups found peddling deliberate falsehoods. The company urged the public to rely only on verified information from official channels and to remain skeptical of sensational, unverified accusations.
This declaration underscores NNPC’s resolve to combat corruption, counter misinformation, and maintain public trust in its operations and the broader petroleum sector.
