NNPC, NLNG Strike Landmark Multi-Billion Dollar Gas Pact to Energize Nigeria for 20 Years

August 23, 2025 — Nigeria’s energy sector has recorded a major milestone as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) and Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), in partnership with top upstream gas producers, sealed a multi-billion dollar gas supply deal set to run for the next two decades.

The historic agreement, described by industry experts as one of the boldest in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, is designed to ensure steady gas availability for domestic consumption, industrial expansion, power generation, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.

According to details emerging from the signing, the pact guarantees uninterrupted supply to NLNG’s trains, strengthens Nigeria’s footprint in the global LNG market, and provides new opportunities for sectors heavily dependent on gas, including manufacturing and electricity production.

NNPC Ltd executives emphasized that the deal is in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, which prioritizes natural gas as both a transition fuel toward cleaner energy and a vital source of foreign exchange earnings. NLNG, on its part, reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global LNG space while driving value across the nation’s energy chain.

Energy analysts have projected that the long-term gas deal will unlock fresh investments, strengthen energy security, and accelerate Nigeria’s ambition to become Africa’s hub for natural gas development.
