Kogi, July 28, 2025 — The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has entered into a strategic partnership with Zuid Energy Limited for the development of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project valued at over 40 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) in Kogi State.
The collaboration, which was officially announced during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lokoja, is aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s domestic gas utilisation and energy transition drive. The LNG facility, to be sited in the North Central region, will significantly expand access to cleaner fuel for power generation, manufacturing, and transport services within and beyond the state.
Speaking at the event, NNPCL’s Executive Vice President for Gas, Power & New Energy, Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, stated that the project aligns with the Federal Government’s “Decade of Gas” initiative and the national agenda to reduce dependence on petrol and diesel while cutting down carbon emissions.
Zuid Energies CEO, Mr. Saheed Adekunle, described the initiative as a transformative one, noting that the LNG facility will not only create thousands of jobs but also catalyse industrialisation across the region. According to him, the plant’s operations will ensure reliable and affordable access to gas energy, especially in underserved areas.
The Kogi State Government also pledged full support for the project, expressing optimism that it will boost the state’s revenue and attract further investment to its growing energy sector.
Construction of the LNG plant is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the commissioning scheduled for late 2026.
