NOA Applauds Kwara State Government for Erecting Tallest Flagpole in West Africa

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has commended the Kwara State Government for its bold and symbolic initiative of erecting the tallest flagpole in West Africa, describing it as a gesture of patriotism and a visible affirmation of national unity.

The towering structure, which now stands proudly within the premises of the Government House in Ilorin, is reported to rise to an impressive 50 meters and is adorned with a giant Nigerian flag that can be seen from several kilometres away. The flagpole is part of ongoing efforts by the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration to promote national identity, cultural pride, and civic consciousness among citizens.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the Kwara initiative aligns with the agency’s mission to foster love for country, unity in diversity, and civic awareness. “This flagpole is not just a physical structure. It is a towering reminder of who we are as a people — united under one flag, committed to peace, progress, and shared destiny,” he remarked.

He further called on other states and institutions across the federation to emulate Kwara by investing in monuments and programmes that reinforce national values and collective pride.

Governor AbdulRazaq, while unveiling the landmark flagpole earlier in the week, noted that it was a tribute to Nigeria’s sovereignty and the resilience of its people. He added that the state remains committed to initiatives that inspire unity and project Kwara as a hub of national integration and innovation.

The newly erected flagpole has already drawn widespread attention from residents and visitors, with many describing it as a proud addition to the state’s landscape and a potential tourist attraction that reflects Kwara’s growing stature in national development.

The NOA reiterated its support for such patriotic projects, saying symbols like the national flag serve as visual representations of Nigeria’s unity and must be accorded utmost respect and reverence.
