ABUJA – The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has lauded the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for the arrest of key suspects linked to the recent massacre in Benue State, describing the development as a significant step toward justice and national healing.
The commendation was issued on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, following confirmation that a joint security operation had led to the apprehension of individuals believed to have orchestrated and executed the deadly attacks that claimed several lives in Gwer West and Ukum Local Government Areas.
In a statement signed by the Director-General of NOA, Dr. Garba Abari, the agency hailed the breakthrough as a testament to the resilience and growing effectiveness of Nigeria’s security architecture in confronting violent crimes and restoring public confidence.
“We commend the swift and coordinated response of the Nigeria Police, the military, and other intelligence services in ensuring that the perpetrators of the heinous attacks in Benue are brought to justice,” the statement read. “This development not only provides some relief to the victims’ families but also reinforces the rule of law and accountability in our country.”
Dr. Abari further emphasized the importance of building trust between citizens and security institutions, urging communities to continue cooperating with law enforcement through timely intelligence sharing.
The NOA Director-General also called on judicial authorities to ensure transparent and expedited prosecution of the suspects to serve as a deterrent to others who may attempt to undermine peace and security across the country.
The Benue massacre, which occurred earlier this month, drew widespread condemnation after gunmen attacked multiple communities, leaving scores dead and thousands displaced. The incident heightened national concerns over the persistence of rural insecurity and the need for urgent security sector reforms.
In the wake of the arrests, the Police have pledged to intensify investigations, while assuring that no suspect connected to the killings would be shielded from justice.
