NOA DG Visits Mokwa Flood Site, Condoles With Community Over Tragic Loss

The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, on Tuesday, paid a condolence visit to Mokwa Local Government Area in Niger State following the recent flood disaster that claimed several lives and displaced dozens of residents.

During his visit to the affected community, Mallam Issa-Onilu sympathized with the families of the victims and the entire Mokwa community, describing the incident as “deeply tragic and painful.”

He offered condolences on behalf of the Federal Government and assured the people that the administration remains committed to supporting victims of natural disasters through coordinated relief and rehabilitation efforts.

“This is not just a local tragedy, it is a national one. The loss of lives and property is a painful reminder of the urgent need for stronger environmental management, emergency preparedness, and collective responsibility,” the NOA boss stated.

He emphasized the role of community awareness and national orientation in mitigating disaster risks, adding that the Agency will intensify efforts to sensitize communities on climate-related threats and early warning signs.

Mallam Issa-Onilu also visited displaced persons and promised that the federal government, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other stakeholders, would provide relief materials and facilitate recovery efforts for the affected households.

Local leaders, traditional rulers, and members of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) received the NOA delegation and commended the federal presence at a time of grief.

Authorities say that torrential rains in recent days led to a sudden overflow of the River Kaduna, submerging several parts of Mokwa and sweeping away homes and farmlands. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, while emergency response teams remain on high alert.
