Gombe, Nigeria – June 15, 2025
Top chieftains and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the North-East geopolitical zone converged in Gombe State on Saturday in a strategic move to endorse Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term in office.
The gathering, which took place at the Gombe International Conference Centre, drew political heavyweights, party officials, and serving public officeholders from the six states of the region: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe.
Leading the endorsement, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum described Vice President Shettima as “a symbol of visionary leadership and loyalty,” citing his contributions to national security, economic stability, and regional development under the Tinubu administration.
The forum unanimously passed a resolution backing Shettima’s continued stay in office beyond 2027, with the North-East APC leaders pledging to mobilize nationwide support for the ticket in the next general elections.
Gombe State Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, who hosted the meeting, said the endorsement represents the region’s appreciation for Shettima’s representation and his efforts in addressing issues affecting the North-East.
Party sources say the endorsement could serve as a precursor to wider political consultations ahead of the 2027 elections, with several APC insiders pushing for an early declaration to consolidate regional influence.
The event ended with a communiqué reaffirming the North-East’s unwavering commitment to the APC and national unity.
