North Korea Condemns U.S. Strike on Iran, Says Action Violates Sovereignty and Threatens Global Stability

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has strongly denounced the recent airstrikes launched by the United States against Iranian nuclear facilities, describing the action as a blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a dangerous affront to international law. The condemnation was issued via the country’s official news agency, KCNA, and reported by Reuters on Monday, June 23, 2025.

In the strongly-worded statement, Pyongyang accused Washington of once again resorting to military aggression in defiance of global norms and the principles of the United Nations Charter. The DPRK stated that the United States’ decision to target Iran’s sovereign installations under the guise of national security concerns only serves to escalate tensions in the Middle East, a region already on the brink of wider conflict.

North Korea expressed unwavering solidarity with Iran, insisting that the Islamic Republic has the right to defend its territory and pursue peaceful nuclear development without foreign interference. The statement stressed that the strikes represent not only an attack on Iran but also a broader pattern of U.S. disregard for the sovereignty of other nations.

“This reckless provocation by the United States is not only an act of military aggression but a serious violation of a sovereign country’s right to self-determination and territorial integrity,” the KCNA dispatch stated. Pyongyang further accused Washington of fueling global instability by using force in place of diplomacy and warned that such actions could push the international community toward heightened conflict and division.

While North Korea has often been a vocal critic of U.S. foreign policy, the latest development underscores the deepening ties between Pyongyang and Tehran, both of which have long been at odds with Washington over sanctions, nuclear issues, and regional influence.

As the international fallout from the U.S. strikes continues to unfold, North Korea’s reaction adds to the chorus of voices condemning the military operation. Several countries, including China and Russia, have similarly called for de-escalation and adherence to international law in handling disputes involving Iran’s nuclear programme.

Analysts note that Pyongyang’s firm stance may not only reflect its strategic alignment with Tehran but also its broader interest in resisting what it sees as U.S. dominance in global affairs. The DPRK concluded its statement by calling on the global community to unite in defence of state sovereignty and reject the politics of intimidation and force.
