NORTHERN LAWMAKERS DECRY KILLING OF TRAVELERS IN EDO STATE

The Northern Senators Forum has issued a strong condemnation of the recent killing of travelers in Uromi, located in Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.
In an official statement released yesterday in Abuja, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, chairman of the forum, expressed deep concern over the incident, describing it as “deeply troubling and unacceptable.”
“These individuals, who were on their way to Northern Nigeria, were wrongly profiled as criminals and brutally murdered. Such an act is not only reprehensible but also a violation of their fundamental human rights,” the statement read.
The senators have called on the Edo State Government to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible face justice.
The lawmakers emphasized that every Nigerian citizen has the constitutional right to freedom of movement throughout the country. They urged security agencies and relevant stakeholders in Edo State to implement measures that would prevent similar violent incidents in the future.
The forum also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s swift response to the situation, noting that his directive to law enforcement agencies to investigate and apprehend the perpetrators demonstrates the federal government’s commitment to justice and citizen protection.
“As outlined in Section 41 of the Nigerian Constitution, every citizen has the right to move freely and reside anywhere in the country. We must uphold these principles to foster national unity and peaceful coexistence,” the statement further noted.
