Abuja, Nigeria | September 15, 2025 — The National Political Stakeholders Assembly (NPSA) has launched a nationwide mobilisation campaign urging Nigerians to actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of future elections.
The group said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that millions of eligible citizens, particularly young people and first-time voters, take advantage of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) CVR window to register, update, or transfer their voter details.
In a statement issued in Abuja, NPSA stressed that voter apathy and disenfranchisement remain major threats to Nigeria’s democracy, warning that low participation in the electoral process undermines governance, accountability, and national development.
The Assembly’s spokesperson explained that the mobilisation campaign will feature town hall meetings, grassroots sensitisation, and the use of digital platforms to reach citizens across urban and rural communities. He added that NPSA is also partnering with civil society organisations, faith-based groups, and youth networks to expand the campaign’s reach.
“Our democracy can only thrive if Nigerians see voting not just as a civic duty but as a tool to shape leadership and governance,” the statement read. “The CVR exercise is an opportunity to take ownership of the process and prepare to make informed choices at the ballot box.”
NPSA also urged INEC to strengthen its logistics and technical systems to ensure that the CVR exercise is seamless, inclusive, and accessible to people with disabilities.
Analysts have described the initiative as timely, noting that Nigeria’s voter turnout rates in recent elections remain among the lowest in Africa, despite having one of the continent’s largest youth populations.
