Lagos, Nigeria — August 17, 2025 | The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has commenced the haulage of cement from Papalanto in Ogun State to Moniya, Ibadan, Oyo State, marking another milestone in its revitalized cargo operations.
The corporation confirmed that fully loaded wagons of cement were successfully delivered along the route, a development it described as proof of renewed efficiency in rail services. Officials noted that the initiative is aligned with the Federal Government’s strategy to decongest highways by shifting bulk cargo transportation from road to rail.
Transport analysts say the renewed focus on freight rail could provide multiple benefits, including reduced logistics costs, safer cargo delivery, and less pressure on Nigeria’s overstretched road infrastructure. They also pointed out that an efficient rail system would enhance supply chains and support industries reliant on heavy cargo movement.
The NRC added that the Papalanto–Ibadan cement haulage is one of several routes being activated as part of ongoing efforts to expand freight operations across key industrial corridors. It reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s transport infrastructure and improving service delivery to meet the country’s growing trade and industrial needs.
