NSCDC Cracks Down on Vandalism in Kano, Arrests Five Suspects

In a significant move to protect public institutions and infrastructure, the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended five individuals suspected of vandalism and theft in the state. This operation highlights the NSCDC’s commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and ensuring the safety of lives and property. The arrests were made following a series of incidents involving the theft of essential items from two government secondary schools and a power installation in Kano.

The suspects, identified as Abdulbasi Usman (19), Yahaya Isa (20), Abubakar Sadiq Abdullahi (20), and Adamu Murtala (20), were arrested for allegedly breaking into and looting Government Secondary School Unguwar Rimi and Government Secondary School Unguwa Uku in Tarauni Local Government Area. The stolen items included roofing sheets, iron rods, iron buckets, 20 three-seater cushion chairs, mats, seven windows, and two ceiling fans. Additionally, vital documents and teaching materials were also taken, underscoring the severity of the vandalism. Efforts are ongoing to recover items sold to a receiver, who is also in NSCDC custody.

In a separate operation, a 17-year-old suspect, Alasan Inusa from Dambatta Local Government Area, was apprehended for vandalizing electric pole equipment. Items recovered from him included six insulators, a three-meter aluminum cable, and various nuts and brass components. The NSCDC has concluded investigations and is set to arraign the suspects in court. This proactive stance by the NSCDC demonstrates its dedication to protecting public property and maintaining order in Kano State. The successful arrests and ongoing recovery efforts serve as a deterrent to potential vandals, ensuring that such acts are met with swift legal consequences.
