Ibadanland is poised for a new chapter in its rich traditional history as former Oyo State Governor, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, prepares to ascend the revered throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Sources within the Olubadan-in-Council confirmed that all customary rites and due consultations have been concluded in line with the ancient chieftaincy succession system unique to Ibadan. Barring any last-minute changes, the official announcement of Ladoja’s installation is expected in the coming days.
Oba Ladoja, a respected High Chief and the Otun Olubadan, has patiently climbed through the traditional chieftaincy hierarchy, a process known for its systematic and rotational nature that distinguishes the Ibadan royal system. His emergence follows the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, who died earlier this year.
A seasoned politician and technocrat, Ladoja served as the Governor of Oyo State between 2003 and 2007. His vast experience in governance, coupled with his deep-rooted connection to Ibadan’s socio-cultural heritage, has made him a widely respected figure among the people.
Residents and traditionalists across Ibadanland have begun preparations to welcome the new monarch, with expectations high that his reign will usher in peace, unity, and developmental strides.
The anticipated coronation of Oba Rasidi Ladoja is seen not only as a celebration of tradition but also as a blend of royalty and democratic legacy, given his rich political background.
