Obasanjo Unveils 46.36km Reconstructed Abia Road, Praises Governor Otti as a “Miracle Worker”

In a significant milestone for Abia State, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has inaugurated the reconstructed 46.36km Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Akara–Alayi–Abiriba road, now renamed Joe Irukwu Way in honor of the late Joe Irukwu, a former President of Ohaneze Ndigbo. The ceremony, held in Uzuakoli, Bende Local Government Area, was attended by dignitaries and residents who praised the transformation of the once dilapidated route into a modern, safe, and efficient thoroughfare.

Obasanjo commended Governor Alex Otti for his leadership and commitment to infrastructure development, describing him as a “miracle worker.” Recalling his previous experience on the road, Obasanjo noted that it was once a “hellish” journey but now takes just 45 minutes to travel from Umuahia to Abiriba. He emphasized that Otti’s achievements demonstrate that with the right leadership, any bad situation in Nigeria can be turned around.

Governor Otti highlighted the road’s significance in enhancing travel time, safety, and economic opportunities for residents across several local government areas. The project is part of his administration’s commitment to transparency, quality, and people-centered governance. Otti noted that the road will facilitate the faster movement of agricultural produce to urban markets, reducing food costs and improving the economic well-being of local farmers.

The reconstructed road is expected to boost agricultural productivity, enhance security, and reduce transportation costs for residents and businesses along the axis. It also includes features like solar-powered streetlights, culverts, and drainage systems to ensure durability and safety. The project has been welcomed by local leaders, who see it as a testament to the government’s efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Abia State.
