Delta State’s political landscape has been dramatically altered as Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside key leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move, which has sent shockwaves through the state’s political circles, is being hailed by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy Senate President and a prominent APC leader, as a watershed moment for the party in Delta.
Omo-Agege, in a statement released on Sunday, described Oborevwori’s defection as a “significant milestone in the growth of the APC in Delta State,” emphasizing that it is a testament to the effectiveness of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in driving development and prosperity across Nigeria. He noted that the mass migration of PDP leaders-including former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, senior administration officials, members of the House of Assembly, local government chairmen, councillors, and numerous PDP supporters-underscores the growing appeal of the APC and signals a new era for Delta politics.
The former Deputy Senate President urged all APC members, executives, and supporters in Delta to unite and give a rousing welcome to the new entrants at a major rally scheduled for Monday, April 28, in Asaba. He assured the party faithful that any issues arising from the influx of new members are being handled with “prudence and foresight” in collaboration with the APC national leadership, the Progressive Governors Forum, and local stakeholders, all in the best interest of the party and the state.
Omo-Agege’s call for unity comes amid reports of tension and intense consultations within his camp, as the sudden arrival of Oborevwori and Okowa-once his political rivals-has raised questions about the future leadership structure of the APC in Delta. Despite previously cautioning against their entry into the party, Omo-Agege now emphasizes the need for “unity, understanding, and a shared commitment to the progress of Delta State and Nigeria,” urging all party members to embrace the new reality for the greater good.
The APC, through its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, echoed this sentiment, stating that Delta, now firmly in the APC’s fold, is poised to contribute maximally to the success of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the enduring prosperity of Deltans and Nigerians at large.
With this historic realignment, the APC in Delta State stands at the threshold of a new chapter, buoyed by the promise of progressive governance and a more united, prosperous future for its people.
