Oborevwori’s Two Years in Office: A Season of Transformation in Delta State

In just two years at the helm of Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has set in motion a sweeping transformation agenda that has begun to redefine governance, infrastructure, and social development across the state. Anchored on his MORE agenda — Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security — Oborevwori’s administration has delivered visible projects and policy shifts that are being felt in both urban and rural communities.

Upon assumption of office in May 2023, the governor declared his intention to consolidate on the gains of past administrations while addressing critical gaps in service delivery. Two years down the line, residents and observers are already pointing to a record of purposeful leadership marked by impactful projects.

In the area of infrastructure, the administration has completed and commissioned key road projects across the three senatorial districts, including the rehabilitation and dualisation of the Effurun-Eku-Abraka-Agbor Road, as well as extensive rural road upgrades aimed at easing transportation and opening up agricultural belts. In Warri, Asaba, and Ughelli, road networks have been expanded and drainages constructed to address perennial flooding.

Health care delivery has also seen notable improvements. The Oborevwori-led government has invested in the renovation and re-equipping of general hospitals, with new medical equipment and the recruitment of personnel aimed at improving access to quality care. The state has also expanded its contributory health scheme, bringing more residents under the health insurance net.

Education has remained a top priority. The government has built and rehabilitated numerous classroom blocks, upgraded facilities in technical colleges, and provided educational materials to public schools. Beyond infrastructure, Governor Oborevwori launched a scholarship and bursary scheme targeting indigent and exceptional students, reinforcing his commitment to human capital development.

Under his watch, Delta State has also taken strides in youth empowerment. Thousands of young people have benefited from job creation programmes such as the Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) and the Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP). These initiatives are designed not only to reduce unemployment but also to encourage innovation and enterprise among Delta’s youth population.

Peace and security, a cornerstone of the governor’s agenda, have been enhanced through collaboration with security agencies and the traditional institution. The State Peacebuilding and Conflict Management Office continues to engage communities in dialogue, especially in oil-producing areas, where stability is crucial for economic activities.

Reacting to his two-year performance, Governor Oborevwori recently remarked: “We are building a Delta that works for all. Our aim is to make every community feel the impact of governance — not just through promises but through actions that touch lives directly.”

Political analysts have described his tenure so far as steady and people-oriented, with emphasis on inclusive governance and strategic spending. Despite economic challenges and fluctuating federal allocations, Delta has maintained a reputation for financial prudence and project continuity under his leadership.

As 2025 unfolds, Governor Oborevwori appears set to consolidate further on his achievements, with major focus areas including digital economy, agricultural expansion, and private sector development. For many Deltans, the last two years have rekindled hope in governance that delivers  not in rhetoric, but in real, measurable results.
