Ogun Set to Host Spectacular Opening Ceremony for National Sports Festival 2024

Ogun State is poised to make history as it hosts the grand Opening Ceremony of the much-anticipated 2024 National Sports Festival, with festivities scheduled to take place on Sunday, 18th May 2025, at the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta.

The event, which marks the official commencement of the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival tagged Gateway Games Ogun 2024, is expected to draw thousands of spectators, athletes, officials, and dignitaries from across the country. The ceremony will begin at 4:00 PM and promises an unforgettable celebration of sportsmanship, unity, and national pride.

His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun (CON), Governor of Ogun State, will serve as host, welcoming contingents from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to what is set to be one of the most colourful and culturally rich sports festivals in recent history.

The state government has assured the public of a world-class experience, showcasing Ogun’s heritage, innovation, and hospitality. From artistic performances and vibrant displays of cultural diversity to a parade of athletes representing the best of Nigeria’s sporting talent, the opening ceremony aims to highlight the energy and spirit that define the Gateway State.

The National Sports Festival will run from May 16 to May 30, 2025, featuring competitions in over 35 sports and attracting top-tier athletes, many of whom are preparing for international championships, including the Olympic Games.
