OSOGBO, August 4, 2025 — The Old Students’ Association of St. David’s Grammar School, Lagere, Ile-Ife, has handed over a newly built NYSC Corps Members’ Lodge to the school management in a move aimed at improving the welfare and accommodation of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the institution.
The official commissioning of the lodge took place on the school premises and was attended by school authorities, alumni members, traditional rulers, and community leaders. The fully furnished facility includes sleeping quarters, bathrooms, a common room, and a solar-powered electricity system to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
Speaking at the event, the National President of the St. David’s Old Students’ Association, Mr. Olusola Fadairo, said the initiative was a demonstration of gratitude and social responsibility by alumni determined to give back to their alma mater. He stressed that the gesture would not only improve the welfare of corps members but also attract committed young teachers to rural schools, which often suffer a lack of qualified personnel.
Principal of the school, Mrs. Rachael Adediran, praised the old students for their consistent support and called on other alumni groups across the state to emulate the gesture. She said the new lodge would significantly boost morale among corps members and improve their living conditions, ultimately benefiting the students they teach.
The Osun State NYSC Coordinator, who was represented at the event, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. He noted that accommodation challenges remain a major concern for corps members in rural areas, and such community-led solutions are vital to sustaining the objectives of the national service scheme.
This donation marks another milestone in community-driven educational development in Osun State, highlighting the vital role of alumni associations in bridging infrastructure gaps in public schools.
