Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, wife of former Ogun State Governor and founder of the Uplift Development Foundation, has officially flagged off the 2025 edition of the Foundation’s Free Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Programme at the Telemedicine Centre of the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.
The event drew notable attendees, including Mrs. Bola Obasanjo, wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and Senator Iyabo Anisulowo. Speaking at the occasion, Mrs. Amosun reaffirmed that “cancer is not a death sentence,” emphasizing the importance of early detection in improving treatment outcomes.
Highlighting concerns over the rising incidence of breast and cervical cancer in Nigeria, Mrs. Amosun cited limited access to healthcare and high treatment costs as key obstacles to early intervention.
Since its inception in 2012, the Uplift Development Foundation has screened over 10,000 individuals and established cancer care clinics across Ogun State, including Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (Sagamu), General Hospital Ota, and General Hospital Ijaye in Abeokuta. The Foundation continues to champion cancer awareness and provide critical preventive healthcare services in the region.
