Ondo Poly Final-Year Student Commits Suicide; Police Launch Investigation

AKURE/OWO — A 28-year-old final-year student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), identified as Arobo Precious, has tragically taken his own life, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances.

According to reports, Precious, an HND II student, was found hanging in a bush near his residence on or about Thursday, June 18, 2025. His body was discovered by local residents and, following the family’s report, was removed by police and deposited at the Federal Medical Centre morgue for autopsy.

Sources revealed the student left a note and had posted a video on social media, expressing significant emotional distress linked to a failed romantic relationship. One post reportedly stated: “Eniayewu Opeyemi was the one who got me into this. People say there is still life out there, but to me, there is nothing anymore.” The note and video suggest the depth of his emotional turmoil.

Confirming the incident, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer SP Ayanlade Olayinka stated the command received a report at approximately 22:00 hrs on June 18. When officers arrived, they discovered a young man, approximately 27–28 years old, hanging by a rope. The rope and scene were taken into custody for forensic evaluation.

Precious has since been buried; his family and friends described him as “kind and well‑loved,” expressing deep grief over the loss.

The police have launched a full investigation to establish all contributing factors and the factual sequence of events. SP Olayinka emphasized that the autopsy and forensic findings will be crucial in confirming the cause of death.
