The Osun State Government has unveiled Imole Wi-Fi, a free public internet initiative aimed at expanding digital access for residents, students, businesses, and communities across the state.
According to the government, the initiative aligns with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s agenda to improve digital inclusion, bridge the connectivity gap, and create opportunities for learning, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
Speaking at the launch, state officials highlighted that the service would initially be deployed in strategic locations including tertiary institutions, markets, and community centers before being scaled up across local governments.
Governor Adeleke, represented by the Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, said the project was designed to “democratize access to the internet,” noting that digital connectivity is now as essential as electricity for education, trade, and governance.
Residents welcomed the development, with students describing it as a timely intervention to ease the cost of data and support academic research. Small business owners also noted that free access would reduce operational expenses and improve online marketing.
The government assured that Imole Wi-Fi would be regularly upgraded to meet growing demand, while also urging users to leverage the service responsibly for education, business growth, and community development.
