Over 1.5 Million Pilgrims Move to Mina as Hajj 2025 Begins

Mina, Saudi Arabia – June 3, 2025 — More than 1.5 million pilgrims have commenced their journey to Mina, marking the beginning of Hajj 2025. This movement aligns with the 8th day of Dhul-Hijjah, known as Yawm at-Tarwiyah, a day dedicated to spiritual preparation and supplication.

Mina, often referred to as the “City of Tents,” is situated approximately 8 kilometers east of Mecca. It hosts over 100,000 air-conditioned tents to accommodate pilgrims during the Hajj period. The site is historically significant, housing landmarks such as the three Jamarat pillars, which are central to the ritual of stoning the devil, symbolizing the rejection of evil.

Pilgrims will spend the night in Mina before proceeding to Arafat on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah (June 4), considered the pinnacle of the Hajj pilgrimage. There, they will engage in earnest supplication and reflection.

In response to challenges faced in previous years, including heat-related incidents, Saudi authorities have implemented enhanced safety measures. These include the installation of misting systems, provision of water stations, and the deployment of AI-powered drones to monitor crowd movements. Additionally, strict regulations are in place to ensure that only authorized individuals participate in the pilgrimage, with significant penalties for violations.

As Hajj 2025 unfolds, the collective movement of over 1.5 million pilgrims to Mina underscores the enduring significance of this spiritual journey, reflecting unity, devotion, and the fulfillment of a fundamental pillar of Islam.
