The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed that more than 77 percent of the total number of Nigerian pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj exercise have already been successfully airlifted to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This was disclosed by the commission’s Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Fatima Sanda Usara, who praised the smooth coordination of the airlift operations so far, attributing the achievement to enhanced logistics, effective planning, and collaboration with key stakeholders.
“As of today, over 77% of Nigerian intending pilgrims have been transported to the Holy Land. This is a major milestone for NAHCON, and we are committed to completing the process seamlessly before the closing of Saudi Arabia’s airspace,” Usara stated.
The 2025 Hajj operation, which commenced earlier this month, involves several Nigerian and Saudi-approved airlines working in coordination with state pilgrims welfare boards. According to NAHCON, the commission has prioritized early departure schedules to ensure pilgrims settle in before the commencement of key religious rites in Makkah and Madinah.
Usara further noted that the successful airlift, thus far, is a testament to the commission’s resolve to improve the Hajj experience for Nigerians under the current administration’s reforms. She added that priority was also given to the elderly and first-time pilgrims to ease their travel and accommodation arrangements.
The Commission assured Nigerians that safety protocols are being strictly observed in all stages of the journey, including health screenings, immigration processing, and in-flight care.
Pilgrims have lauded the coordination and improved welfare compared to previous years, as officials continue to provide support services ranging from medical care to spiritual guidance.
NAHCON also reiterated its commitment to completing the remaining airlifts on schedule, in compliance with Saudi Arabian Hajj regulations, and has urged all stakeholders, including pilgrims, to cooperate with the process to ensure a hitch-free 2025 pilgrimage.
