Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has intensified efforts to ensure the seamless operation of the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport by engaging its facility manager in a strategic meeting. This development comes as the state prepares for full commercial operations at the airport, which has been described as a transformative project poised to position Ekiti as a hub for agro-allied exports and economic growth.
The governor’s engagement with the facility manager underscores his administration’s commitment to operational excellence and sustainability at the newly established airport. With the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) having granted a six-month license for non-scheduled flight operations starting from December 2024, Oyebanji is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that all systems are optimized ahead of the airport’s full operational status scheduled for June 2025.
The Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport has already garnered significant attention, with its world-class runway and state-of-the-art facilities receiving commendations from aviation stakeholders. Earlier this year, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo declared the airport “99.5% ready” for commercial activities after an inspection tour. Keyamo lauded the governor’s dedication, noting that the airport meets international standards and is equipped with critical infrastructure such as a fire station, control tower, navigational equipment, and ample apron space for aircraft parking.
Governor Oyebanji’s proactive approach reflects his administration’s broader vision to transform Ekiti into Nigeria’s agro-allied export hub. The airport is expected to serve as a catalyst for economic development by facilitating trade, boosting agricultural exports, and attracting investments to the state. During his New Year address, Oyebanji described the project as a landmark achievement and emphasized its alignment with his government’s development blueprint focused on infrastructure, food production, and governance.
The governor has also expressed gratitude to key stakeholders who contributed to the airport’s realization, including elder statesman Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), whose support was instrumental during its construction phase. Oyebanji remains optimistic that the airport will not only enhance connectivity for Ekiti residents but also open new economic frontiers for the state.
As preparations continue for full-scale operations, Oyebanji’s engagement with the facility manager signals his resolve to address any operational gaps and ensure that the airport delivers on its promise of driving prosperity for Ekiti State.
