Oyetola Inaugurates New NPA Governing Board, Reaffirms Reform‑Driven Maritime Governance

Abuja, July 1, 2025 — The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Monday inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), pledging to align the maritime agency with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda of institutional reform, transparency, and enhanced trade facilitation.

During the ceremony in Abuja, Minister Oyetola highlighted the strategic role of the board in guiding the NPA’s policy framework, particularly with respect to staffing and budget oversight via its Staff and Establishment and Finance Committees. He emphasized that operational implementation remains the domain of the Managing Director and executive management, as mandated by Section 10(3) of the NPA Act and the Public Procurement Act of 2007 .

He stated, “This inauguration underscores our firm commitment to institutional reforms aimed at enhancing trade facilitation, improving transparency, and unlocking the immense potential of our marine and blue economy for inclusive, sustainable economic growth” .

Oyetola urged the Board to avoid interference in day-to-day operations while ensuring accountability through clear governance structures. “Engage constructively with management, rooted in professionalism, mutual respect, and national interest,” he charged .

On behalf of the board, Chairman Senator Adedayo Adeyeye expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and Minister Oyetola, pledging to foster unity and collaborative engagement. “Under the honourable Minister’s leadership, we will work as one family to achieve our national objectives,” he affirmed .

The 11-member board includes key figures such as Senator Adeyeye (Chairman), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho (Managing Director), Ministry representatives Hon. Olabanji Olateju, Hon. Amirudin Tukur Idris, Barr. Kelechi Igwe, Ekpebide Daniel, Dr. Mercy Ilori, Engr. Ibrahim Umar, Engr. Olalekan Badmus, and Ms. Vivian Edet .
