Oyo State Government Distributes Free Textbooks to Public Schools

The Oyo State Government has initiated the second phase of its free textbook distribution program, targeting both junior and senior students in public secondary schools across the state. This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance access to quality education and improve academic performance among students.

Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Salihu Adelabu, led the distribution ceremony at the Ministry of Education in Ibadan. The textbooks cover a range of subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Economics, Basic Science and Technology, Information Technology, and Social Studies. These materials have been supplied to all 33 Local Government Areas in the state, ensuring that every public secondary school benefits from this program.

The initiative aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision for free and qualitative education, which has already led to a significant increase in school enrollment across the state. By providing essential learning materials, the government aims to alleviate financial burdens on parents and encourage students to focus on their studies, ultimately enhancing their performance in internal and external examinations.

This move complements other educational interventions in Oyo State, such as the distribution of free exercise books and the elimination of educational levies. The First Lady of Oyo State, Tamunominin Makinde, has also been involved in educational support programs, including the distribution of 50,000 free exercise books to public secondary schools as part of the “Renewed Hope” initiative.

These efforts reflect the state’s commitment to improving educational outcomes and ensuring that every child has access to quality learning resources. As Oyo State continues to implement these policies, it is poised to become a model for educational development in Nigeria.
