The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Orbih, has clarified that the party leadership permitted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to serve in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking in Abuja on Saturday, Orbih dismissed concerns over Wike’s role in the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, stating that his appointment was endorsed by various PDP organs as a call to national service.
According to Orbih, Wike formally sought approval from the party’s leadership at all levels before accepting the ministerial position. “He wrote to the South-South Zonal Executive, and after deliberations in Port Harcourt, we unanimously agreed it was a call to national service,” he said.
He further revealed that Wike also sought permission from the PDP’s state chapter, his ward, local government chapter, and the Governors Forum, all of whom supported his decision. “No organ of the party opposed his appointment,” Orbih added.
He also noted that the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) had met with Wike at his official residence, and the issue of his appointment was not raised as a concern.
Orbih urged political parties to be cautious in how they handle internal matters, stressing that Wike’s involvement in the government is not an issue, except for those trying to stir controversy.
