Alex Wele, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has urged residents to extend their full support to the State’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (retd.), in his efforts to restore peace to the region.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Port Harcourt, Wele emphasized that while the imposition of emergency rule was unexpected, it represents a necessary step towards resolving the ongoing political crisis in the state.
He called upon the suspended governor and legislators to utilize this period to initiate reconciliation and resolve their differences, suggesting that genuine reconciliation could lead to a harmonious relationship and their eventual reinstatement.
“My advice to Rivers people is that they remain calm and peaceful and cooperate with the Federal Government and the Sole Administrator,” Wele stated. “He has been given a mandate to restore law and order in the state. Let’s cooperate with him and see if the suspended governor and legislators would also forge a peaceful relationship within this period.”
Describing the crisis as unnecessary and unreasonable, the PDP chieftain implored all parties involved to prioritize peace. He also advised the suspended governor and legislators to focus on delivering democratic dividends to the people once their suspension is lifted.
