The Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Mrs. Omolola Oloworaran, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja.

The meeting was part of ongoing engagements between the Federal Government and sub-national entities to strengthen the implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and enhance pension administration across the country.

During the visit, discussions focused on deepening cooperation between PenCom and the Lagos State Government, which is widely recognized as a leading sub-national actor in pension reform and compliance. Mrs. Oloworaran commended the state for its consistent remittance of pension contributions and the establishment of strong institutional frameworks for the administration of retirement benefits for its workers.

She also used the opportunity to emphasize the Commission’s commitment to transparency, effective regulation, and the protection of contributors’ funds. The DG assured the governor of PenCom’s readiness to support Lagos and other states in ensuring retirees have timely access to their entitlements under the CPS.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his response, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to workers’ welfare, noting that pensions remain a priority in the state’s fiscal planning. He praised PenCom’s efforts in modernizing Nigeria’s pension architecture and pledged continued collaboration to ensure the long-term sustainability of the scheme.

The visit marks a significant step in strengthening synergy between federal pension regulators and state governments to ensure improved service delivery and financial security for retirees across the country.
